Four Who Found Magic

By ROBERT KINSLER, Special to the Register
(OC Register - May 25, 2001)

It's impossible to fit the Orange County music scene into any single niche. That works in favor of those who love to listen to the latest from local artists working in a variety of genres. This week, OC Pop focuses on four artists who have discovered magic in the past and used it to mold a modern sound of their own.

Rob Blaney

Santa Ana-based Rob Blaney's classic-styled song craft may sound decidedly commercial, but it's clear he is both an impressive keyboardist and versatile songwriter. His new three-song demo is built around demonstrating his skills at writing three completely different types of songs.

"Common Ground" is the strongest song on the short collection, a blend of classic rock instincts and a catchy melody that fuels the chorus. "Waiting to Fly" is distinctly a modern country song, while Blaney offers a piano-styled ballad on "Anywhere." For more information, visit Blaney's official Web site at www.RobBlaney.com.
