What's on the mind of the average working Joe or Jane? Working
showcases the hopes and dreams, joys and fears of American workers, from
firefighters to schoolteachers, millworkers to homemakers, corporate execs
to parking lot attendants to waitresses. Lively, funny and powerful, this
musical was developed by Stephen Schwartz (Godspell, Pippin, Wicked),
based on Studs Terkel's book of interviews. Concordia's production is
headed by the same creative team that brought you last year's smash hit
Seussical. After seeing Working, you'll never think
about punching a clock, a cow, or a computer keyboard quite the same way.

What do we do when we're faced with disaster - natural or manmade? This
Pulitzer Prize-winning play by the author of Our Town is the
satiric story of the Antrobus family from the dawn of time to the end
of the next war. Dinosaurs and deluges; Greek philosophers and bingo callers;
the Ice Age, plagues of locusts and Atlantic City - the Antrobuses have
seen it all in Thornton Wilder's wacky celebration of the human ability
to survive.

Why is suffering tragic when it happens to us, but comic when it happens
to somebody else? Neil Simon's hit comedy The Good Doctor, based
on stories by Russian author Anton Chekhov, finds humor in some of the
most awkward situations: a young man who accidentally sneezes on his boss,
a young woman auditioning for her first professional play, an apprentice
dentist about to pull his first tooth, a father trying to teach his naive
son the facts of life, a man who offers to drown himself for three rubles.
Concordia's newest theatre professor, Lori Siekmann, directs this evening
of charming short plays.

What can you say that's new about two of the greatest characters in English
literature? Quite a bit, as it turns out. Sherlock Holmes and the
Murder of John Straker is a brand-new adaptation of a classic mystery
about a dead man and a missing racehorse, and it brings a fresh perspective
to the famous detective and his dark world. Doctor Faustus conjures
his own personal demon, Mephistopheles - an enigmatic, compelling woman
who joins a battle of wits with the Doctor, with his soul as the prize.
This four-character version of the classic morality tale becomes a psychological
thriller - and were not sure who will win until the very end.

What is it like to be mentally disabled - or to live with someone who
is? Jack, a social worker, runs a halfway house for four mentally challenged
men whose lives seem to mix comedy and tragedy in equal measure. For Norman,
Arnold, Barry and Lucien, life's little challenges - learning to read,
getting a job, going out on a date - can become big obstacles, but their
disabilities also help them - and Jack - see what's truly important.
